Tutoring, coaching, and financial donations are the principal ways of getting involved. Kingman Boys and Girls Club’s most valuable asset is the volunteer support of our parents, tutors, athletic coaches, and neighbors in the community. Our Board of Directors is voluntary as well. They include two of the sons of the original Kingman founders, successful graduates of Kingman’s programs, and other members of the community. Friends of Kingman enjoy a family-like feeling that extends for several generations.

Tutoring
During the school year, a corps of more than two dozen educational tutors of all ages and backgrounds volunteer at Kingman twice a week from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Tutors work one-on-one with students to help them improve their academic skills. Presently, the majority of the tutors are drawn from the community and from local universities, including Howard, Catholic, and Georgetown’s Medical School. The relationships that form often transcend the academic program and evolve into genuine friendships. Periodic tutor training workshops provide feedback and improved techniques. For more information on the Volunteer Tutoring program, please contact us at 202-483-1210.

Athletics
Our athletic program involves nearly 300 youngsters coached by 30 community volunteers. More than 80% of the funding for athletic activities comes from neighborhood fundraising events. Kingman offers organized team sports, clinics, and camps in basketball, football, cheerleading, baseball, soccer, tennis, and golf for boys and girls 6 to 16 years old. The Club participates in several DC athletic leagues. To become involved in coaching, please contact us at 202-483-1210.
